Catch 22 [escaping order] is an abstract exploration of the relationship between chaos and order. From our bedrooms that are a constant reminder of our desperate attempts to hold on. To control thinking that we have power over the chaos that sneaks into our sacred spaces at night. To rearrange our furniture and steal our socks while we sleep. To the mundane frustrations of work and home, corporate and political offices, chaos is constant, order is temporary.

Eric Mnguni is a Ndebele visual artist based in Soshanguve north of Pretoria. He is obsessed with croissants, the color black and vintage magazines. Mnguni works in various mediums, from pencil, fine liners, markers, gouache, to digital and found objects. This is Mnguni’s first solo.
